Avoidance of double taxation: Estonia signs convention with Morocco

In September Estonian Foreign Minister Mr Urmas Paet signed convention between the Republic of Estonia and the Kingdom of Morocco for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income, which was declared on 22nd of October 2014. The convention came into force starting from 7th of November, with the aim to encourage investment between the two countries.

 

The provisions of the convention shall effect both countries:

  • in respect of taxes withheld at source, on amounts paid or credited, on or after the first day of January of the calendar year following that in which this convention enters into force; and
  • in respect of other taxes, for any taxable year or period beginning on or after  the first day of January of the calendar year following that in which this convention enters into force.

Besides the Kingdom of Morocco, Estonia has signed convention for avoidance of double taxation with the following countries: Albania, United States of America, United Arab Emirates, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Georgia, China, Spain, the Netherlands, Croatia, Ireland, India, Island, Italy, Jersey, Canada, Kazakhstan Greece, Cyprus, Lithuania, Luxemburg, South-Korea, Latvia, Macedonia, Malta, Mexico, Moldova, Isle of Man, Norway, Poland, Portugal, France, Sweden, Romania, Germany, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, Great Britain, Switzerland, Thailand, Denmark, Check Republic, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Hungary, Uzbekistan, Belorussia.
